Welcome to our senior school
We offer an ambitious education, culminating in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme; the ‘gold standard’ international qualification which facilitates entry into the world’s leading universities. Our goal is for each student to recognise academic excellence and to realise that it is attainable. We believe that students should be given every opportunity to try new things and explore their interests and talents, to develop their whole personality. Through inspiring teaching, NLCS Hong Kong students will develop their love of subjects and, in exploring this subject-passion, will become truly independent learners.
Our pastoral care is highly individualised. All students belong to a tutor group and have daily contact with their tutor, who oversees all aspects of their school life. Students are also a member of a House, enabling them to socialise across age groups and develop a strong sense of community.
The enrichment programme is an intrinsic part of life in the Senior School and all students are encouraged to participate in a variety of different activities. We want our students to develop a wide array of skills that are sought after by the top universities and are increasingly important in the rapidly changing world. We are dedicated to ensuring that our students are happy, healthy, and equipped with the knowledge, skills, values and attitudes to become future citizens of influence and impact.
We look forward to welcoming you to the NLCS Hong Kong family.

At all times, the curriculum at NLCS Hong Kong, seeks to challenge and enthuse our students through up-to-date content and active learning. Through our curriculum we aim to develop an enthusiasm for learning in all of our students.
Critical & Creative Though (Embracing Ambiguity)
In the Middle School, departments create their own programmes of study. The focus is on the further enhancement of underpinning academic skills, cross-curricular themes and love of subject. Subjects studied include Mathematics, English, Science, Humanities, Mandarin, Chinese Cultural Studies, French, Latin, Art, Computer Science, Music, Drama, Physical Education and Dance, and Personal, Social and Health Education.
Flexible Enquiry & Creative Problem-Solving
In the Upper School, students study for Cambridge International Examinations. These highly regarded qualifications are very popular internationally and top universities consider iGCSE results as crucial indicators of academic potential. Study at this level is an important academic stepping stone and a foundation on which to build future academic success.
International Mindedness & Critical Enquiry
The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme emphasises the development of inquiring, internationally minded, caring young people. The programme’s breadth requires students to be excellent time-managers, focused and resilient. The academic skills of critical thinking and high-level research and analysis that it develops, prepare the students for higher education at the world’s top universities.

We aim to create a community with care and consideration at its heart, where every individual is well known, valued and celebrated. Each student is a member of a tutor group, with the tutor overseeing all aspects of their tutees school life. Daily meetings, academic monitoring, co-curricular and social development oversight, provide the tutor with a complete picture of every child in their care. We have strong values of kindness, respect, responsibility and honesty, and our approach when students make mistakes is restorative. We expect students to collaborate, cooperate and be a positive influence on our community.
Every student is also a member of a House. The House provides a ‘family within a family’ and is the opportunity to socialise and work with students from different year groups. Students identify with their House through healthy competition, which provides a sense of belonging, a crucial component of wellbeing.
There are numerous opportunities for student leadership within the pastoral programme and students are encouraged to voice their opinions in a positive and sensitive manner. The personal, social and health education programme addresses many key developmental issues in an age-appropriate way. The Chinese Language, History and Cultural programme ensures that all students have a sound knowledge and understanding of the history and traditions of their host country.
Pastoral support is also available from our emotional guidance team who are always on hand to talk if required. Learning support is provided by our inclusion team to ensure there are no barriers to learning.

Activities beyond the classroom are central to an NLCS education. The programme offers breadth so there is something for everyone and students have the opportunity to try something new. The programme also has depth to enable students to follow new, or existing passions, and develop expertise. There is great scope for student leadership within the programme, helping our students to become dynamic, innovative and confident.
Our numerous societies form a central part of our academic enrichment programme. We have subject and themed focus weeks when societies organise speakers and events. Societies also produce their own publications to explore their interests in greater depth and share their enthusiasm and knowledge with the School community.
Service is central theme of the School. Students are encouraged to participate in local, national and international initiatives, developing their understanding of global issues and enhancing their sense of responsibility.
Education beyond the classroom is highly valued at NLCS Hong Kong. A wide variety of trips are organised to enhance real world understanding and provide richness and personal meaning to education. Adventurous activities are extremely important in the development of many essential skills including resilience, flexibility and collaboration. Testing yourself in a challenging environment helps enhance self-knowledge and develops the ability to cope under pressure.
We offer a wide variety of activities including music, drama, dance, sport and students are expected to participate in at least two activities per week. We encourage students to perform whether in a play, an orchestra, choir or on the sports field as it is important in the development of the whole personality.
